Kids Internet safety and protection. Here are a few guidelines to keeping your kids safe while online, using the internet.

·  Keep your home computer in an open place.Children have less opportunity to do unsafe activities if the computer is in a living room, den, kitchen, or other space that is frequently used. This is the number one way to watch what your children are doing. Talk to other parents who have a balanced approach-realistic about computer use and appropriate boundaries.

Remind your son or daughter about safe internet principles and how to protect themselves online. You will get an eye-roll, but that is okay. You are the adult, just patiently give the reminders.

Ask your child to show you how to use popular networking sites that they use such as MySpace, Facebook, Snapchat Twitter or buzzNet. Not only will you learn more about technology, you will be able to check out their page in a non-threatening way. If you comment your son or daughter’s page once every week or so you will not only feel more connected you won’t feel like such a snoop since they know that you are visiting their page.You can do this through private message so it is not visible to their friends. These apps change constantly, there are new ones each week.

Kids internet safety and protection; Look up information on blocking certain websites that you find inappropriate. Avoid the keyword blocking systems since they tend to censor valuable information along with the”bad” keywords. This is an industry that is constantly changing, talk to other parents and consult with the experts.

Download a filter. Kids, internet safety and protection; There are many parental control programs available,  provided by  certain software – for example, Vista. They allow you to monitor where your child surfs, and block certain sites. You can also download a parental filter that naturally blocks out sites unknown or rated as “inappropriate”.
