Counseling Specialties
One of the greatest gifts we can give others is ourselves. We offer consolation and comfort, especially in moments of crisis. Receiving is an art. It means allowing others to become part of our lives. It means daring to become interdependent. Let us be good receivers, and give of ourselves as well.
Assessment Based Treatment
Treatment is based on a psycho-social assessment, diagnostic criteria, and an Object Relations orientation. Therapy techniques will vary as clinically appropriate. Examples include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral therapy, trauma treatment including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing/EMDR, Play Therapy with children, and Family Therapy. For information regarding EMDR, see www.emdr.com or www.emdria.org.
Everyone Experiences Difficulties
My counseling philosophy is that we all experience difficulties in our lives - it’s part of being human. The purpose of our needs is to motivate us to reach out to others. When issues with relationships or personal problems make life feel unmanageable or hopeless, caring professional help is available.
We All Possess Strengths
I approach each individual as someone who possesses strengths and talents. There is always hope. Ethical, professional counseling services for individuals, couples, families and youth can help to bring healing, resolution and personal growth.
Reaching the Entire Family
My emphasis is on the entire family. Every family is different, and every family experiences conflict. Almost any family situation can be addressed with care and professional expertise. Counseling options are implemented to help parents, children and the entire family unit, including the unique needs of blended families. Children are helped to cope with the traumas such as abuse, divorce and grief. Families are helped to improve communication, increase harmony, and manage ADHD or other childhood diagnoses. Referral and linkage to appropriate helping professionals such as psychiatrists, or community resources such as small groups or seminars is part of this collaborative approach.
Private Sessions
All work is done in private counseling sessions, individually or as a couple. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes during day-times and evenings. The duration of therapy depends solely on your goals and issues.
Payment and Insurance
My practice is a combination of direct-pay and health insurance benefits. Many clients have health insurance that covers therapy or counseling sessions. Please call regarding what benefits may be utilized. Office payment is by cash or check and is due at the time of service.
